“I am passionate about creating beautiful, healthy smiles for my patients. It’s been my pleasure to be a part of so many people’s lives throughout the past 29 years.” — Dr. Smiley
Dr. Steven J. Smiley has been providing outstanding orthodontic care to Spartanburg area residents since 1989, when he joined his father’s private practice. Before joining, he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery as well as a master’s degree and certificate in orthodontics at the University of North Carolina.
Dr. Smiley believes in the importance of investing in continuing education for himself and his team. He regularly attends continuing education courses that focus on various aspects of orthodontic care so he can offer the most current treatment options.
He not only stays on the cutting edge of the latest advances in orthodontics through continuing education courses, but also by maintaining memberships with numerous professional organizations, including:
- American Association of Orthodontists
- Southern Association of Orthodontists
- South Carolina Association of Orthodontists (past president)
- American Dental Association
- South Carolina Dental Association
- Piedmont District Dental Society
- Spartanburg County Dental Society
- Western Carolina Cleft Lip / Palate Craniofacial Team
Dr. Smiley is active in his community. He volunteers with Healthy Smiles of Spartanburg and serves as the orthodontist for the Children’s Rehabilitative Services program, which provides orthodontic care for children with cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial abnormalities.
Dr. Smiley moved back to Spartanburg in 1989. He enjoys spending time with his wife Shannon and his children: Caroline, Rebekah, and David. Their home is full of animals, including a yellow lab named Luna, one rabbit, eleven chickens, a Bearded Dragon lizard named Rocky, and too many house and barn cats to count.
When he’s not in the office, Dr. Smiley enjoys hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, and spending time with his wife and three children.
